  • Prostitution and solicitation.
  • Voyeurism, or spying on someone for the purposes of sexual gratification;
  • Improper relationship between educators and students;
  • Unlawful disclosure or promotion of intimate visual material, also known as "revenge porn;"
  • Invasive visual recording, or taking intimate pictures of video of someone without their consent;
  • Sexual coercion, including blackmail or extortion involving intimate visual material;
  • Indecent exposure and public lewdness.

Penalties for Sex Crimes

The specific criminal penalties associated with a sex crime conviction are dependent upon many factors including the specific offense for which you have been charged, the relationship between you and the alleged victim, and the alleged victim’s age. The severity of the charges and the possible consequences will be more severe if you are suspected of having used a deadly weapon or a so-called “date rape drug” like Rohypnol, GHB, or ketamine. Your previous criminal history will also be taken into account.

Some sex crimes are misdemeanor offenses punishable by up to a year in jail and fines. However, most sex crimes in Texas are felonies punishable by a prison sentence from two years to life in prison and fines up to $10,000. Additionally, many sex crime convictions require registration as a sex offender.

Sexual assault aggravated sexual assault, compelling prostitution, and a second conviction for indecent exposure are just a few of the crimes that require sex offender registration. When you are a registered sex offender, anyone with access to the internet can see your name, photograph, address, and the sex crime(s) for which you have been convicted.
